Install iOS 27.0.1 today. Then ask why a flagship needed it this soon.

Apple released iOS 27.0.1, and the headline fix is a Face ID bug that made the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max restart on their own. The same update also fixes an artifact in photos taken at 2x and a screen freeze when Notification Center and Control Center were opened together. If you own either Pro model, this is not an optional update. Go to Settings, General, Software Update.

Now the part I keep coming back to. I am surprised a flagship shipped without enough testing to catch this. Bugs happen, and every operating system launch has some. But this is not a side model. It is the phone Apple puts on stage, the most expensive one in the line, and a phone that reboots itself is about as basic a failure as it gets. A product like that deserves more respect from the people who make it, and enough test time that the buyers are not the ones finding the problems.

To be fair to Apple, the fix is here, and it arrived quickly. This one is solved. It will not be the last one, though, and that is exactly why I do not buy anything on day one. Not phones, not consoles, not graphics cards. Waiting a few weeks costs you nothing except bragging rights. In return you skip the bugs, and you get time to see whether the product is actually worth the money once the launch noise dies down.

If you already have one, update and move on, the problem is fixed. If you were about to buy one, nothing about this update says it is a bad phone. It just confirms the rule: let other people find the bugs first.

That is my opinion. The release notes are public, check them yourselves.
