About HypeSkeptics

What this is

HypeSkeptics is a consumer tech news site. We cover the gear that actually ends up in your house: phones, laptops, consoles, headphones, smart home kit. No funding rounds, no enterprise roadmaps, no launch event hype repeated word for word.

How a story gets made

  1. We pick a piece of news worth your time and check it against the original source.
  2. One of us forms an actual opinion on it: is this good, is it overpriced, what did the press release leave out.
  3. AI helps turn that opinion into a clean, readable story. It shapes the writing; it does not decide what we think.
  4. The person whose name is on the story reads it and approves it before it goes live.

Every story links to its source, so you can always check the fact for yourself and judge our take on it.

Who writes it

Two editors, each writing under a byline: Noa Vandermeer and Sam Reyes. The bylines are pen names for real people; we keep our private lives out of it so the work is judged on its own.

The opinions in these stories are real. They come from a member of the HypeSkeptics team, who uses this byline. AI is used to rewrite and structure those opinions into finished articles. It does not decide what we think of a product. Nothing goes out without the person behind the byline reading and approving it.

How the site pays for itself

Right now it does not: there are no ads and no affiliate links. If that changes, it will be said plainly on the disclosure page and on every story that carries a product link, and a product only gets linked when it genuinely belongs in the story.
